If you’re looking for an easy way to make a Mayzie La Bird costume, read on! I made this costume years ago and it’s held up beautifully through four separate productions.
First I bought an a-line style red dress at a thrift shop. Then I bought some sequined fabric in red and purple and cut it into triangles. I then pinned the triangles in rows on the dress and sewed. For the top, I folded the triangles over the edge to give it a finished edge. I started with all red on top and eventually mixed in the purple toward the bottom.
For the tail, I ordered boas in red and purple/red mix and pinned them over the back. I finished it off with a huge red tulle bow for some extra fluff. Check out my video to get a closer look at the fabrics and the tail.
